Regardless of the type of speakers you have connected to the computers in your office, you can adjust the volume and fine-tune other sound settings using the Windows Volume Control utility. Many sound cards allow you to adjust the bass setting, too, though you also may be able to adjust this setting on the speakers.
1.Right-click on the 'Volume Control' icon in the system tray and click 'Playback Devices.'
2.Right-click on the 'Speakers' icon in the list of playback devices. Click 'Properties.' If your computer has multiple sound devices, you may see other similar icons. Right-click on the one that your computer is currently using. This will be labeled as the 'Default Device.'
3.Look through each tabbed section of the 'Speakers Properties' page for a setting that allows you to adjust the bass. Many sound cards provide settings to change the 'Bass Boost' and 'Bass Balance.' These settings can often be found under the 'Enhancements' tab.
4.Open the control panel for your sound card if you don't find the bass setting in the Windows Volume Control utility. The control panel for your sound card is usually accessible through an icon in the system tray as well. For example, if your computer has a Realtek integrated sound card, which is quite common, right-click on the 'Realtek HD Control Panel' icon in the system tray and then click 'Sound Manager.' You will be able to adjust bass settings on the 'Audio Effects' page.

I'm a guitarist who wants to pick up bass too at some point. However I'm not too excited about spending tons of money on a big bass amp since I don't have too much money laying around and there's not much space left in my small room. But I do have Pro Tools and I'm doing 99% of my guitar playing through Amplitube 3 guitar/bass modeling plugin and it sounds great. My speakers are Yamaha HS7 studio monitors.
So compared to actual amp, what would I lose / gain playing through computer like I described?

Too much
For what you pay to just get the app you definitely don’t get much! I know pedals aren’t cheap but if you really want people to use your app have some decent stomps and amps to work with you go bankrupt trying to find what sounds right
A fantastic app and hardware combo
This is a muso's dream. Unbelievable value, and amazingly simple and fun to use! I just love it and cannot speak highly enough of what IK Multimedia have produced. The demos are great for refining your sounds - pick one of the 7 or 8 looped demos and then fiddle with all the different stomp box and speaker/mic combos to create really useable sounds that are equally great for jamming, playing live and even recording - yes, I believe it is that good.
Initially I was a little bit disappointed when I heard the presents - some of the distortion sounds seemed a bit tinny, but once I got the hang of using it (especially with the demo loop mode), it exceeded my expectations. I honestly can't fault it. I'm using it with an 09 Gibson Les Paul Standard (Ebony) and it rocks hard. Creating custom tones and saving them as presets is just so simple. No need for manuals and the like - just what most blokes love.
I can't wait to see what they do with it over time - an iPad specific version would be great. The ability to purchase more effects down the track as they are developed is also a bonus. When you think of how much all these effects would cost as standalone units it is chicken feed. Don't hesitate - you won't regret it. And it is just another one of the brilliant things that you can now do on the iPhone. Stupendous.

Great app, does what it is supposed to.
If you travel and play guitar you need this app. I am primarily a metal drummer who plays guitar to write song ideas. This is exactly what I have been looking for. I can now practise easily with headphones or through a stereo and record any ideas without having to use my full recording setup.
For getting ideas down quickly that sound good and practising in a completely portable way this app is the way to go. Sure the sounds aren't 100% perfect but you're running a variety of amps and stompboxes ON A PHONE for the price of a round of beers! Not to mention being able to play over the top of songs and multi track record.
With a decent guitar (I'm using a Gibson SG) and leads and using the Noise Filter stompbox, I am getting a very clean sound, even when using the Overdrive and Distortion stompboxes together. I have tried other apps with the iRig and they were either noisy with a lot of feedback through headphones or just didn't work.
The iRig also works as a simple guitar input for my MacBook Pro which is a bonus.
The only thing I would say is that the app needs to be updated for the iPhone retina display as a lot of the layout is pixelated.
